The 29th anniversary of the murder of Sarajevo citizens in front of the Elementary School “Safvet – beg Bašagić” was marked today

In front of the “Safvet-beg Bašagić” elementary school, at the intersection of Gimnazijska and Obala Kulina Bana streets, on December 14th, 1993, eight citizens of Sarajevo were killed and ten were seriously and slightly wounded due to the explosive effect of a mortar grenade fired from the aggressor’s positions.

On this occasion, on behalf of the City of Sarajevo, city councilor Amra Zulfikarpašić laid flowers and paid tribute in memory of the killed citizens.

On that tragic day, Vildana Avdić, Dina Čomor, Rusmir Čopelj, Azra Hanić, Lejla Jahić, Razija Jahić, Amir Krivić and Dino Šipilović were killed

Family members of the victims, as well as representatives of Sarajevo Canton, Centar, and Stari Grad municipalities, the Union of Civilian War Victims of Sarajevo Canton, the Association of Parents of Children Killed in Besieged Sarajevo 1992-1995 and the Association of Civilian War Victims “Svjetlost” attended the commemoration of the 29th anniversary.

 

The City Council adopted the Amendments to the Budget of the City of Sarajevo for 2022

The Chairman of the City Council, Jasmin Ademović opened and chaired the 21st session of the City Council of the City of Sarajevo which was held in the City Hall today.

At the beginning of the session, during the consideration of the previous questions, Chairman Ademović informed the attendees that amendments were made to the Draft Statute of the City of Sarajevo, which is contained in the proposed agenda of today’s session. Considering that, by the City Council Rules of Procedure, amendments cannot be considered at the City Council session before the expiration of the 14 days after they have been submitted, the Committee for Statute and Acts, as the authorized proposer, requested that the consideration of the Draft Statute of the City of Sarajevo should be postponed until the Rules of Procedure is completed, which the City Council accepted. Thus, a review of the Draft Statute of the City of Sarajevo is expected at the next session of the City Council.

The Chairman of the City Council, Jasmin Ademović, informed the attendees that the City Council Committee for Monuments, as an authorized proposer, withdrew the Proposal for the Decision on the amendments to the Decision on the erection of a monument to the Bosnian King Tvrtko I Kotromanić, and that it was not included in the agenda of today’s session.

The work of the session, after the agenda had been adopted, began with the adoption of the Decision on the amendments to the Decision on the requirements and method of awarding the “6th April Award of the City of Sarajevo”, with the aim of more clearly regulating issues related to the nomination and selection of candidates.

In the continuation of the session, decisions were made on the dismissal, that is, the election, which changed the composition of certain working bodies of the City Council.

On the initiative of the city councilor Muamer Mekić and the proposal of the City Council Committee for Monuments, after a public debate, the Decision was adopted on the erection of the Memorial Plaque to Marko Didoji – Markan, which will be placed on the stone wall of the left bank of the Miljacka River, right next to the Emperor’s Bridge, on which Marko Didoije – Markan worked.

The City Council also adopted a decision to include the “Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina – Igman” event in the Calendar of Marking Dates and Events Significant for the City of Sarajevo.

Furthermore, the Decision to consent to the Program of Activities for the Day of Commemoration of the Siege of Sarajevo 1992-1995 was adopted for 2023, as proposed and amended by the accepted amendments of the proponent. The program plans several suitable contents to mark one of the most challenging chapters in the history of Sarajevo with dignity.

A decision that prescribes that the City of Sarajevo will mark May 31st  as the Day of Remembrance of the victims of crimes against humanity in Prijedor and its surroundings was also adopted.

The City Council also adopted the Decision to give consent to the Mayor of City of Sarajevo for signing the Memorandum of Understanding between the Auschwitz Institute for the Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities (AIPG) and the City of Sarajevo, then the Decision on the adoption of the City of Sarajevo Plan for the Prevention and Reduction of Food Waste and Food Losses 2023-2026 and the decision on giving consent for the conclusion of the Agreement on the transfer of property rights. Furthermore, the Decision on amendments to the Decision on salaries and compensation in the bodies of the City of Sarajevo was also adopted.

The Report on the Realization of the Budget of the City of Sarajevo for 01.01.-30.09.2022 was considered and adopted. After a broad discussion, the amendments to the Budget of the City of Sarajevo for 2022 were adopted, as proposed and supplemented by the solutions from the accepted amendments. Many modifications were submitted by the City Councilors Club “Narod i Pravda,” (People and Justice) among them an amendment to allocate funds to support competitions within the Tennis Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Amendments of the Budget of the City of Sarajevo for 2022. The mayor also accepted the proposal of the city councilors club to rebalance funds to support the cultural and artistic society “Daire” and the cultural and artistic society “Saobraćajac.” The amendments of the city councilor Vedad Deljković were also accepted, which propose a rebalancing of the budget of the City of Sarajevo in the current year so that the City of Sarajevo participates in the co-financing of the Project of installing a skating rink in Trg Oslobodjenja- Alija Izetbegović Square, with significant funds, together with the Municipality of Stari Grad. The amendment of the city councilor Adi Škaljić was also accepted to increase the funds planned for the reconstruction, restoration, and color treatment of facades in the area of ​​the city of Sarajevo by 20,000.00 BAM.

Note that the Budget of the City of Sarajevo for 2022 was adopted at the City Council of the City of Sarajevo session, held in December 2021, in the amount of 21,280,673.00 BAM.. Amendments of  the Budget of the City of Sarajevo for 2022 were considered since a significant increase in revenue from the Unified Income Account of the FBiH was recorded, which was the reason for amendments of the Budget of the City of Sarajevo for 2022.

The Program of Cooperation with the Diaspora for 2023 and the Report on Cooperation and Relations of the City of Sarajevo with National Minorities were discussed and adopted.

After a detailed explanation by Mayor Karić, the Draft Budget of the City of Sarajevo for the year 2023 (from 22,258,353 BAM) and the Draft Decision on the realization of the Budget after the adoption of the conclusions of the City Council, sent to a public debate until December 11, 2022.

Subjects in the public debate are the municipalities that make up the City of Sarajevo, city councilors clubs and other subjects that express interest. Remarks, proposals, opinions, and suggestions presented in the discussions of the working bodies of the City Council and city councilors, at the session of the City Council of the City of Sarajevo, will be treated as a contribution to the public debate.

The City Council also got acknowledged with the Information on the activities undertaken for the implementation of the Rehabilitation Project, investment and ongoing maintenance, and systemic maintenance of the arranged riverbed of the Miljacka River and the arranged riverbeds of its tributaries in the area of ​​the city of Sarajevo “Clean Miljacka River.” The Information on the implementation of the Protocol on business-technical cooperation between the City of Sarajevo and the Tourist Board of Sarajevo Canton and the Information on the activities of the City of Sarajevo in the field of collaboration with health institutions and family and child protection organizations were also acknowledged.

In the end, counselor questions were addressed, and initiatives were launched. Thus, the City Council unanimously supported the initiative of City Councilor Elvedin Korora to award 15,000 BAM  to the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina in sitting volleyball for success and winning a silver medal at the World Championship. It became an initiative of the City Council.

City councilor Željko Majstorović submitted an initiative for setting priorities for achieving the basic principles of Sustainable Development in the territory of the city of Sarajevo and beyond, based on the goals proposed in the National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change.

The Chairman of the City Council, Jasmin Ademović, submitted an initiative for the City of Sarajevo, in cooperation with the city municipalities and the Canton of Sarajevo, to design a project that would equip centers for healthy aging with a daycare service for demented fellow citizens, form stationaries, which would significantly help families who take care of their demented members, and where they could stay for a few days if the person accompanying them has to travel.

The deputy chairman of the City Council, Mirela Džehverović, submitted an initiative for the City of Sarajevo, in cooperation with the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo, to be the bearer of the construction of a children’s theme park in the territory of the Municipality of  Novo Sarajevo.

Deputy Chairman of the City Council Dragan Stevanović laid flowers and paid tribute in memory of the killed citizens in Hamdije Kreševljakovića Street

In Hamdije Kreševljakovića Street, number 47, in the Municipality of Centar, the 29th anniversary of the killing of our fellow citizens was marked today. On this occasion, on behalf of the City of Sarajevo, the Deputy Chairman of the City Council, Dragan Stevanović, paid his tribute and laid flowers at the place of suffering.

At that place, on November 29, 1993, a grenade fired from the aggressor’s positions on Hladivode killed seven of our fellow citizens and seriously and slightly wounded four people.

Staka Aksentić, Zekerijah Dacić, Ibro and Sead Plakalo, Igbal Redžić, Dženan Smajić and Elvedin Zimić were killed that day.

Family members and representatives of Sarajevo Canton, Centar Municipality, and the Union of Civilian War Victims of Sarajevo Canton attended the anniversary commemoration.

 

The Joint Ceremonial Academy was held on the occasion of celebrating November 25 – Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Statehood Day: Awards and prizes of the City of Sarajevo were awarded

On November 25 – the Statehood Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a joint Ceremonial Academy of the Sarajevo Canton, the City of Sarajevo, the municipalities of the Sarajevo Canton and SABNOR was held tonight in the City Hall.

The professor of the Faculty of Political Sciences in Sarajevo, PhD Nermina Mujagic addressed a large number of representatives from the public life of our country who were gathered at this ceremony.

The mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karić, greeted the guests and attendees  and emphasized, among other things: “The Bosnia and Herzegovina we want is the Bosnia and Herzegovina of our celebrated and top artists, our celebrated and top athletes, gifted students whom we are awarding city prizes and awards tonight. In this way, we congratulate them and encourage them for further success. We are grateful to every contribution tonight’s award winners have made and presented to the Bosnian treasury of good and success”.

The chairman of the City Council, Jasmin Ademović, also addressed the guests. In his appropriate speech, Chairman Ademović recalled the significance of the event being celebrated today, which took place during the difficult but proud struggle against fascism from 1941 to 1945. At the First Session of the Alliance of Anti-Fascists and Fighters of the National Liberation War, on November 25, 1943, despite all internal differences, the political community, a unique Bosnia and Herzegovina was renewed. Chairman Ademović pointed out.that this is how the way was paved for the continuity, sovereignty, and independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina decades later.

He further reminded the gathering of the renewed struggle against fascism from 1992 to 1995 when independent Bosnia and Herzegovina was created and of all the obstacles that Bosnia and Herzegovina is still facing.

Afterward, he sent a message to the political representatives who stand for the survival and development of an independent and sovereign Bosnia and Herzegovina and feel that Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also of all citizens of our country: “Let’s nurture unity in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The unity of our country has no alternative!”

“All the citizens who love Bosnia and Herzegovina are asking us for unity; that’s what history teaches us. We are obliged to do so by the sacrifices we have made. That is what our homeland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, asks of us”, added Chairman Ademović and congratulated November 25 – the Statehood Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Edin Forto, the Prime Minister of the Canton of Sarajevo, gave an appropriate speech at the Ceremonial Academy.

In the continuation of the session, the mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karić, and the chairman of the City Council, Jasmin Ademović, presented the awards and recognitions of the City of Sarajevo.

The “Plaque of the City of Sarajevo” was awarded to Lejla Njemčević.

Born in Italy and raised in Sarajevo, this record holder and the best female cyclist in the world and the Balkans achieved exceptional results that contributed to promoting the city of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina as an environment from which top athletes come, and helped to be visible as such, with all its features, on the world map. She won the national championship seventeen times in four different cycling disciplines and the state league of Bosnia and Herzegovina seven times. She is the current record holder of the Balkan Federation, with five consecutive gold titles of the Balkan champion in the senior category, to which she added two silver medals.

With success, she continued her way to the top of world cycling. This year, she won the World Marathon League, comprised of seven World Cup races. With this success, our national team member took first place on the World Cycling Federation (UCI) list and became the first female cyclist in the world. Lejla Njemčević finished winning five out of seven World Cups during the World Marathon League season. She won World Cup races in Poland and Croatia. She also won second place in France and Turkey and finished third in Spain.

The result of Lejla Njemčević is the biggest success of Bosnia and Herzegovina in cycling, which shows enough about the result itself.

The “City of Sarajevo Plaque” was also awarded to Lana Pudar, a great Bosnian swimmer and Olympian, state record holder in several disciplines, and Mediterranean Games record holder in the 100 m dolphin. At the age of only 15, Lana Pudar from Mostar achieved the A Olympic standard in the 100 m dolphin. At the European Junior Championships in Rome, she won a gold medal in the 100-meter dolphin and silver medals in the 50-meter and 200-meter disciplines in the same style. The brilliant Lana Pudar was one of the youngest participants in the Olympic Games in Tokyo. She won the first medal for Bosnia and Herzegovina at the World Cup held in Kazan, while at the World Senior Championship held in Abu Dhabi, she won the first historical medal, winning third place in the 200m dolphin. At the Mediterranean Games in Oran, she won two gold medals in the 100 and 200 m dolphin disciplines, making her the most successful BiH athlete since our country participated in the Mediterranean Games. In the discipline of 100 m dolphin, she set a new Mediterranean Games record. At the European junior championship in Otopeni, she became the European champion in the 50 and 200 m dolphin events and the runner-up in the 100 m dolphin event. At the European senior championship in Rome, she achieved one of the most outstanding results in the history of Bosnian sports, winning the gold medal in the 200 m dolphin and third place in the 100 m dolphin. The best female swimmer from Bosnia and Herzegovina set a new record for Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 400 meters freestyle discipline at the 50th International Youth Swimming Meet 2022.

The recipient of the “City of Sarajevo Plaque” award is Faruk Šabanović, a humanitarian worker, artist, animator, and filmmaker who combines generative art, software development, and traditional and computer animation with film, installation, and theater.

Faruk Šabanović is the founder of the civil society organization “Center for self-confidence.” Since 1996, he has worked to raise awareness about the needs of people with disabilities. The media campaigns for equal access to work and education, which he led, contributed to the construction of wheelchairs access for people with disabilities at city intersections, as well as the implementation of appropriate access to the facilities of the University of Sarajevo.

The combination of technical expertise and artistic vision made him a member of many international productions. He directed and produced many music videos and is the author of the first Bosnian-Herzegovinian feature-length animated film “Bird-like us.”

He is preparing for his doctoral studies at the University of Boston (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), where he also received his master’s degree. He is currently shooting a new animated film in Canada. His brother Tarik Šabanović received the diploma.

The “Plaque of the City of Sarajevo” was awarded to Edina Selesković, one of the most famous and world renowned contemporary artists, who continuously exhibits and brings engaged art with her installations to the places and streets of Sarajevo and conveys a striking image of Sarajevo and BiH to the world. She was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina and has been living in the United States since 1991. She has presented her works at over 100 exhibitions throughout the USA, Europe, and Asia from her studio in New York. Edina Selesković’s public art installations, on their global mission, activate public dialogue, connecting young people and creativity, cultural institutions and communities, art, and new technologies. She has received numerous awards and honors for her work, including the Sculpture Space Fellowship and the Sam and Adele Golden Foundation Fellowship in New York. She is the winner of the global prize for socially engaged visual artists, the World Citizen Artists Award 2020. Her installation Think Freedom in 2021 won the SyArt Award from the Sorrento Foundation and the city of Sorrento, Italy. Edina lives and works in New York, Sarajevo and Tuzla.

The recipient of the “Plaque of the City of Sarajevo” award is Mladen Solomun, a world-renowned artist – musician, and producer.

With his productions, remixes, and DJ sets, as well as with the Diynamic label, Mladen Solomun played an essential role in the reconstruction of European house music, to which he gave a fresh and ultra-modern approach.

Solomun is the winner of numerous music awards, including the Noir&Haze-Around remix of the year award and the best DJ and producer award by Mixmag and Groove Magazine. He is the owner of two publishing houses for which many famous world producers have published.

Mladen Solomun is also a recognized humanitarian. He donated earnings from concerts and performances in Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina to children’s homes, cultural centers, non-governmental organizations, and generally young people in Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Travnik, and the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

A native of Travnik, he presented himself to the general Sarajevo public, but also to the Bosnia and Herzegovina audience, with two performances during the Sarajevo Film Festival in the center of Sarajevo in front of the Eternal Flame in 2019 and 2022, which were attended by tens of thousands of people from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the region, and also from all over the world. The recordings of the performances echoed in the media throughout the region and Europe.

The ceremonial diploma will be given to him later.

An eleven-year-old member of the Equestrian Club of Sarajevo, Luna Jusufović, the current champion of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in dressage riding received the “Sarajevo Snowflake” award. Since last year, Luna has started winning in the region, where she took clear first places in competitions, such as: “The Open Belgrade Championship,” “Osijek Grand Prix” and the 5th round of the “Croatia Cup” in Osijek, the Dressage Tournament, Koprivnica, and Evago Dressage Tournament, Zagreb.

With these performances, the competitor of the Sarajevo Equestrian Club achieved historic success for Bosnia and Herzegovina in dressage riding, one of the three recognized equestrian Olympic disciplines.

The “Sarajevo snowflake” award was also giver to members of the Bosnia and Herzegovina team at the 63rd International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), namely: Adisa Bolić (student of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics UNSA), Benjamin Mujkić (student of the Second High School Sarajevo), Boris Stanković (student of Second High School Sarajevo), Haris Imamović (student of Second High School Sarajevo) and Emira Ibrahimović (student of Second High School Sarajevo). Mathematicians from Bosnia and Herzegovina won 36th place at the 63rd International Mathematical Olympiad in Oslo, in which 104 countries participated, which is the best team ranking in the history of our country in the last 20 years. The entire group of Bosnia and Herzegovina made a historical success; they helped two silver, one bronze medal, and one honorable mention arrive in Sarajevo.

In the artistic part of the program, Aida Mušanović-Arsić and Dado Mušanović performed “Zemljo Moja” and “Bosno moja” and actor Enes Salković recited “Bosnia is one good country.”

 

The celebration of November 25 – the Statehood Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina began with raising the flag on Hum Hill, paying tribute, and laying flowers

This morning, the celebration of November 25 – the Statehood Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina began with the raising of the national flag and the singing the national anthem on Sarajevo hill Hum.

Sarajevo mayor Benjamina Karić, deputy mayor Haris Bašić and city councilors, together with numerous delegations from all levels of government in Bosnia and Herzegovina attended the ceremony.

Mayor of Sarajevo Benjamina Karić, Deputy Mayor Haris Bašić, Deputy Chairman of the City Council Dragan Stevanović, and City Councilor Biljana Lazarević laid flowers. They paid their tribute by reciting the Fatiha and holding a minute of silence at the memorial near the Eternal Fire, the Kovača cemetery and the grave of the first president of the Presidency of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Alija Izetbegović, Memorial to the killed children of the besieged Sarajevo 1992-1995 and Vraca Memorial Park.

Flowers were also laid at the city cemetery of Lav, Sveti Josip, Sveti Marko, and the Stadion cemetery.

Deputy Mayor Haris Bašić and city councilors Toni Vukadin and Adi Škaljić paid their tribute and laid flowers at the Memorial in front of the Municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo.

Independence Day will be marked by a series of other activities in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Tonight, on the occasion of marking one of the most important dates for our country, the Ceremonial Academy will be held in the Sarajevo City Hall, starting at 5:00 p.m., where recognitions and awards of the City of Sarajevo will be awarded.

The Chairman of the City Council, Jasmin Ademović, supported the work of the Cantonal Public Institution ‟Family Counseling Center‟

Today, the Chairman of the City Council, Jasmin Ademović, director of Cantonal Public Institution ‟Family Counseling Center‟ Osman Šaljo, and  his associate Denyel-Ismir Kovač held a working meeting in the City Council Chairman’s office.

On that occasion, Osman Šaljo, director of the Cantonal Public Institution ‟Family Counseling Centre‟ introduced Chairman Ademović to the work and services provided by this institution, which through its activities, has achieved significant results in various domains.

The mission of the Cantonal Public Institution ‟Family Counseling Center‟ is to provide primary prevention, counseling, and treatment services to individuals, partners, families, and groups with problems they cannot solve without professional support.

It was pointed out that the public institution ‟Family Counseling Center‟ prepares and implements preventive, i.e., counseling-therapeutic projects for each stage of the beneficiary’s life, and that an essential segment of work is the cooperation with institutions that directly or indirectly deal with the family.

Some of the projects of this significant institution were presented to the Chairman. Preventive work with young people was particularly pointed out, where the participants had the opportunity to hear more about prevention programs, such as ‟Camp for youth without the Internet‟ intended for high school students, the ‟Social Skills‟ prevention program, intended for young people who are in the records of the Employment Service, as well as several other preventive programs for children and youth.

The activities that the Cantonal Public Institution ‟Family Counseling Center‟ implements for parents of preschool and school children, experts from several fields, mainly health, education, and social protection, were also mentioned. The institution certainly pays special attention to working with people of the third age and people with disabilities of all ages.

It is essential to point out that projects never end, but after the evaluation, they are innovated, and their implementation continues for the needs of other users.

Chairman Ademović emphasized the importance of this institution, which primarily aims at the well-being of the family, the basic unit of society. He expressed his understanding of the expressed needs and the intention to initiate specific support from the authorities of the City of Sarajevo and to plan funds in the Budget of the City of Sarajevo for 2023, which will be intended for the highest possible implementation of the presented projects.

At the end of the meeting, Chairman Ademović pointed out that this meeting is part of the process of getting to know the institutions in the city of Sarajevo which work in the interests and for the benefit of the citizens.

Sad memory of teacher Fatima Gunić and her students

Twenty-nine sad years since the murder of teacher Fatima Gunić and her students Adis Mujal, Vedad Mujkanović, and Feđa Salkić have been marked today.

An aggressor’s grenade fired from the direction of Nedžarić hit the premises where classes were held.

On this occasion, mayor Benjamina Karić and city councilor Alemo Logo, on behalf of the City of Sarajevo, laid flowers and paid tribute at the place where the teacher and her students were killed, in front of the “Fatima Gunić” Elementary School in ZAVNOBiH Square.

“I deeply sympathize with the families who lost their loved ones, their children. We have to fight with knowledge, to invest in better conditions and our children’s future,” said Mayor Karić.

The sad commemoration was attended by numerous citizens and families of the victims, as well as other representatives of the authorities.

Chairman of the City Council Ademović arranged a meeting with representatives of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Today, the chairman of the City Council of the City of Sarajevo, Jasmin Ademović, arranged a meeting with the president of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina, prof. Ph.D. Milanko Mučibabić and general secretary dr. Sci. Said Fazlagić.

The goal of this meeting was the organization the Olympic Week in the city of Sarajevo.

The chairman of the City Council Ademović informed the participants about the initiative of the City Council, which plans to hold the Olympic week every year during the celebration of Winter Olympics 84, respectively the EYOF, with sports and other appropriate activities, suitable for an Olympic city and with the manifestation of the Olympic spirit.

The discussion was about possible cooperation in preparing the Program for the celebration of the Olympic week in 2023 and about the plans for the celebration of 40 years of Winter Olympic Games 84 in 2024.

The 29th anniversary of the murder of nine members of the MUP and the RBiH Army in action “Trebević 2” was marked

Deputy Chairman of the City Council dr. Dragan Stevanović, on behalf of the City of Sarajevo, along with family members and delegations from various levels of government, laid flowers and paid tribute to nine members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the RBiH Army who were killed in the “Trebević 2” operation in 1993.

While performing their combat tasks in action above, the following were killed: Admir Hebib, Kemal Kojić, Dragan Miljanović, Slaven Markešić, Srđan Bosiljčić, Elvir Šovšić, Hamid Humić, Jasmin Čamdžija, and Izet Karšić.

The decisions on the awarding of the “City of Sarajevo Plaque” to Lejla Njemčević, Edina Selesković, Mladen Solomun, Lana Pudar and Faruk Šabanović and the “Sarajevo Snowflake” award to Luna Jusufović and the group whose members represent the Bosnia and Herzegovina team at the 63rd International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) were adopted at the 20th session of the City Council.

At the 20th session of the Sarajevo City Council, which was presided over by Jasmin Ademović, the chairman of the City Council, the city councilors paid tribute to the members of the Military Police of the Army of the RBiH and the MOI(MUP) of the RBiH who were killed on this day in 1993, during the action “Trebević 2” and to the murdered police officers Adis Šehović and Davor Vujinović, who was killed four years ago in Alipašino Polje, while performing their regular tasks, by reciting the Fatiha and observing a minute of silence.

The session began, after the previously adopted agenda, with the decision to appoint the Committee for the awarding of the “Sixth April Sarajevo Award” in 2023, which consists of members of the Committee for Selection and Appointment of the Sarajevo City Council and prominent public officials – prof. PhD Jasmina Selimović, prof. PhD Hadžan Konjo, assistant professor PhD Šahim Kahrimanović, Mirsada Murtić, PhD, Mirza Pašić and Edin Deljkić. With the adoption of this Decision, conditions were created for the constitution and work of the Committee for awarding the “Sixth April Sarajevo Award” in 2023.

After the chairman of the City Council, Jasmin Ademović, acting as a city councilor, had submitted proposals for awarding the “Plaque of the City of Sarajevo” to Lejla Njemčević, Edina Selesković and Mladen Solomun, the Committee for Selection and Appointment adopted the proposed decisions and sent them to the City Council for consideration. Thus, the City Council, at today’s session, adopted conclusions on the awarding of the “City of Sarajevo Plaque” to Lejla Njemčević, the best cyclist in Bosnia and Herzegovina who writes the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina in golden letters of sports, Edina Selesković, an interdisciplinary artist with an impressive international exhibition experience, and Mladen Solomun (DJ Solomun), a world-renowned artist – musician and producer.

At the proposal of the City Councilors Club of Our Party, the Committee for Selection and Appointment determined the proposed decisions to award the “Plaque of the City of Sarajevo” to Lana Pudar, a swimmer and Olympian from Bosnia and Herzegovina and to Faruk Šabanović, an artist, animator, screenwriter and director who combines generative art, software development, computer animation with film, installation, and theater, and the “Sarajevo snowflake” award to Luna Jusufović, a twelve-year-old member of the Sarajevo Equestrian Club, who achieves significant results in her category and group whose members represent the Bosnian team at the 63rd International Mathematical Olympiads (IMO), namely: Adisa Bolić (student of the Faculty of Science, UNSA), Benjamin Mujkić (Second Sarajevo gymnasium student), Boris Stanković (Second Sarajevo gymnasium student), Haris Imamović (Second Sarajevo gymnasium student) and Emira Ibrahimović (Second Sarajevo gymnasium student). City councilors supported all proposed decisions.

The award winners will be promoted, and the Mayor and the chairman of the City Council will present them with charters or diplomas at the ceremony.

The Decision to give consent for the establishment of the regional Network of Project Teams was also adopted during the session. In this way, the City of Sarajevo will formalize cooperation between nine cities in six countries of the Western Balkans and, for the first time, will be the coordinator of the regional network of project teams. The network is not only going to be used to increase the capacity of cities to attract funds and use available funds, but also for networking and knowledge transfer and to prepare towns for proposing projects based on needs and finding solutions for specific challenges.

The city councilors also adopted the Decision to revoke the Decision on giving consent to the mayor of the City of Sarajevo to join the procedure of purchasing (repurchasing) a steam locomotive for the needs of the Bistrica station. Namely, as a result of the expressed dissatisfaction of the citizens of Zavidovići, with which the public is familiar through the media, the Mayor of the City of Sarajevo understood the commitment, wishes, and needs of the citizens of Zavidovići to preserve the locomotive as part of the heritage of the city, and proposed that the decision to purchase a steam locomotive for the needs of the Bistrica station, adopted at the 16th session, will be revoked, which the City Council supported.

Through the report, the city councilors were informed about the implementation of the Decision on the use of the coat of arms, name, and display of the flag of the City of Sarajevo, with the fact that the Committee for Local Business and Tourism, which considered the report in the preparation of the session, in its opinion requested certain additional information and the news, in the content as submitted, it was not adopted.

With its earlier Decision on erecting a monument to the Bosnian king Tvrtko I Kotromanić, the city council defined the location for erecting this monument in the park between the Presidency building and the Sarajevo Canton Government by Elaborate on possible sites for erecting the memorial, that is, with the previous positive Opinion of the Municipality of Centar and the Planning Institute of Sarajevo Canton. However, the Committee for the Preservation of National Monuments gave a negative opinion on the submitted conceptual solution for the proposed location, referring to the Decision on the Declaration of the Historic Urban Landscape.

In this regard, at today’s meeting, the city councilors considered the Draft Decision on the amendment of the Decision on the erection of the monument to the Bosnian king Tvrtko I Kotromanić, in which a new location was proposed that is not included in the Decision above of the Committee for the Preservation of National Monuments. The proposed site is located next to a replica of the medieval stećak at Marijin Dvor, which represents the historical period of the Middle Ages, as well as the period of the reign of the Bosnian king Tvrtko. The Draft determined in this way, by the conclusion of the City Council, was sent to a public hearing.

Afterward, the City Council also considered the Draft Decision on erecting the Memorial Plaque to Marko Didoji – Markan.

After the mayor’s opening speech, a discussion was held in which the city councilors made specific proposals about the Draft Program for erecting monuments and artistic sculptures of importance to the City of Sarajevo, for which the City of Sarajevo is an investor in 2023.

Both considered drafts were submitted for public hearing.

Conclusions that will also be submitted for a public hearing and refer to the drafts of the Work Program of the City Council of the City of Sarajevo for the year 2023 and the Program of International Cooperation of the City of Sarajevo for the year 2023 were also adopted.

The information on the cooperation and relations of the authorities of the City of Sarajevo with religious communities and churches and the Information on the co-financing of the association’s work for supporting children with developmental disabilities and disabled persons were received.

At the end of the session, several counselor questions and initiatives were addressed. Thus, city councilor Adi Škaljić took the initiative to improve the left bank of the Miljacka river bed, between the Otoka settlement and the Otoka stadium/Istiqlal mosque.

City councilor Vedad Deljković also submitted an initiative for the City of Sarajevo to allocate funds to purchase a book collection for equipping the library and reading room of the Mechanical Technical High School.

The Deputy Chairman of the City Council, Mirela Džehverović, launched an initiative to establish an open library – “take it and leave it” in the area of ​​the city of Sarajevo, but with a construction that, compared to before, will be such that it can be used in all weather conditions.

City councilor Seid Škaljić, among others, submitted an initiative to the Ministry of Health of Sarajevo Canton to return the treatment of children up to the age of 18 to the jurisdiction of the School Department of the Health Center. He explained the initiative as the need to show the particular sensitivity of the community for young people, bearing in mind the conditions in family medicine clinics, where children are now treated from the age of 14.
